Buffalo Grove Links

  • The very first pioneers to come to the Buffalo Grove area came from New England around 1834, and stayed for about five years. Many of them had received land grants from the government, and came to settle on their frontier property. http://www.vbg.org/HISTORY/index.htm

  • This is Buffalo Grove, Illinois! A fine community of around 44,000 residents. Some activities we can recommend are biking on the many paths and trails, bowling and laser tag at eSkape and getting fit at the Buffalo Grove Health and Fitness Club (tell them we sent you!). http://www.buffalogrove.com/

  • Buffalo Grove was incorporated in 1958. Major employers include: Allstate Insurance Company, Siemens Building Technology, Courtesy Corporation, International Profits Associates, J. C. Penney Catalog Sales, Mid-West Automation, R. G. Ray Corporation, Federal Express. http://www.co.lake.il.us/about/communities/buffalo_grove.asp

  • Although it is known that the Potowatomie Indians once lived in the Buffalo Grove area, the first recorded history begins with the German immigrants from the Alsace-Lorraine region who came to farm this land in the mid 1840s. Descendants of these early settlers remain in the area today. The present St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Village's most prominent landmark, was built by the families of these early settlers in 1899. http://www.villageprofile.com/illinois/buffalogrove/02his/main.html

  • New Englanders established the first farms in the area, followed in the 1840s by Melchior Raupp and other Germans. Farmers carried their harvest in wagons along 34 miles of dirt roads to Chicago. Mainly Roman Catholics, these German settlers raised $300 and donated seven acres of land to build St. Mary's Church in 1852. Although a few years later arsonists destroyed the church, it was rebuilt in 1899 at Buffalo Grove Road and Lake-Cook County Road. Additions enlarged the structure in the 1980s. http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/177.html
